The role of the Digital Account Director is to direct and manage the implementation of all areas of the digital direct response strategy for non-profit organizations, maintain strong client relationships and support the development of the Digital Department under the guidance of a Senior Vice President.

Job Summary

Working with account staff, the Digital Account Director is responsible for managing and executing digital fundraising and advocacy campaigns, including: writing all campaign strategies, writing data selects and instructions, overseeing creative development and quality control.  On larger clients, the Digital Account Director may supervise a Digital Account Executive or Senior Digital Account Executive who is conducting some of these tasks. The Digital Account Director is responsible for developing the multi-year strategic vision as well as creating the annual digital budget and projections, cash flow projections (when necessary), developing the yearly strategic plan, and analyzing the success of the digital program including managing reporting to the client.  The Digital Account Director will also handle ad hoc reports such as executive summaries for Boards and Senior Leadership. 

The Digital Account Director is responsible for maintaining strong client relationships, including initiating regular contact with clients and responding to urgent client needs.  The Digital Account Director is also responsible for ensuring that Account Supervisors are apprised of the status of the campaign and any potential client issues that could impact the relationship between the client and the firm. The Digital Account Director should have a detailed understanding of direct response fundraising, nonprofit management and the ability to work as part of a team to fulfill client needs. 

The Digital Account Director is charged with supervising staff. They are also responsible for helping to take the growth of the Digital Department to the next level, whether that means spearheading new areas of expertise, hiring additional staff, or developing partnerships within the industry. Working in cohort with the Senior Vice President lead in the Digital Department, the Digital Account Director will participate in building the internal budget for the Department.

The Digital Account Director is charged with new business development, following up with potential client leads and participating in the RFP process.  To facilitate that, the Digital Account Director is expected to cultivate a presence in the industry, representing Lautman Maska Neill & Company at industry events and volunteering on committees. 

Finally, the Account Director should be a leader in the firm, bringing added value by initiating special projects or initiatives that will further develop company offerings, processes or culture.

Key Responsibilities


  • Maintains strong relationship with clients and reports up to a Senior Vice President, Principle or Partner to keep them apprised of all accounts.
  • Working on multiple teams, acts as liaison with clients, account team, creative department, analytics department and vendors to execute the campaign strategy as outlined in LMNC procedures documents.
  • Develops or supervises the development of individual campaign strategy, tests and strategy memos.
  • Writes (or supervises the writing of) all email copy.
  • Writes or supervises the writing of data selects and segmentation instructions.
  • Supervises the proofreading of all campaign materials from copy through tests to ensure the quality of each campaign.
  • Ensures that all campaigns go out on time.
  • Manages campaign analysis to monitor program success (and takes corrective action when needed).
  • Ensures results are updated regularly and the client and internal team are appropriately apprised of results.
  • Writes (or supervises the writing of) all digital campaign reports and analysis.
  • Creates multi-year strategic vision for the digital program and creates yearly client budgets.
  • Supervises staff at the Digital Account Coordinator or Digital Account Executive levels.
  • Participates in new business proposals and vetting potential clients.
  • Handles Digital Department billing on a monthly basis. 
  • Works with company leadership to continually build the expertise of the Digital Department through new offerings, staffing strategy, or partnerships in the industry.
  • Develops Digital Department budget alongside the Senior Vice President of the Department.
  • In consultation with supervisor, cultivates a presence in the industry through volunteering, speaking or writing for internal and industry publications.  A primary goal of these efforts is to develop a network of professionals within the industry who can support the growth of the firm.
  • In consultation with their supervisor, develops and spearheads special projects or initiative within the company that will further develop company offerings, processes, or culture.

      Job Requirements                                                                

      Eight-ten years of experience in fundraising and/or direct marketing; detailed knowledge of direct response fundraising and digital fundraising and advocacy campaign execution including analysis and budgeting; expertise with multiple digital platforms; ability to develop compelling copy for a variety of causes; strong experience with digital advertising; the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines; strong analytic skills, strong attention to detail, strong writing skills; strong management skills; the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clients, vendors and co-workers.
