Overview

For almost 50 years, Covenant House has served and advocated for youth and young families experiencing homelessness, human trafficking, and exploitation. Our overarching goal is to end homelessness among youth and young families by helping them achieve housing stability, heal from trauma, tap into their innate resilience, and hone their interests and skills to forge new pathways to independence. This work is carried out across Covenant House sites in 31 cities in the US, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

Primary Responsibilities 

Reporting to Vice President, Marketing Optimization and Digital Experience, the Director, Consumer Marketing Data Analytics leads an internal service team designed to help maximize fundraising results through collaboration with and support of the Audience and Channel strategies.  This role is responsible for the design and implementation of data strategy and analytics for integrated Consumer Marketing campaigns through frequent communication with internal and external stakeholders.  Recommend and implement segment testing strategies, address data challenges, drive data and reporting solutions to support organizational fundraising goals and objectives.  Oversee use of industry best practices, strategies, and technologies to analyze supporter behavior and provide donor segmentation with the goal of increasing engagement, revenue, and retention.  The successful candidate will fundamentally improve the marketing team’s access to actionable data, increase our marketing optimization efforts and ultimately deliver an enriching experience to our donors and supporters.

Job Duties 

  • Lead efforts to effectively and efficiently measure and report on campaign performance and ensure audience managers are making donor-centric, data-driven business decisions
  • Work cross-functionally to design, implement, and report on testing to gain insights about Covenant House donors
  • Work with audience & channel managers to define productive segmentation strategies
  • Build and lead a marketing data services team to develop and execute on various data requests from audience managers, ensuring the team employs best practices for data quality, governance, and reporting
  • Responsible for day-to-day supervision and professional development of direct report(s)
  • Other related duties identified or assigned


Data Strategy

  • Oversee a department-wide approach to donor file testing, segmentation, planning, execution, and analysis
  • Provide insight and guidance into campaign segmentation to ensure it aligns to fundraising strategy
  • Convene a cross-functional working group to support the development and maintenance of data governance strategies and business rules aligning with organizational goals and objectives
  • Provide leadership on behalf of the Integrated Direct Response team on the optimization of data infrastructure
  • Function as the lead data management champion for the consumer marketing team, interfacing with Development Operations, Finance and IT as needed


Data Services

  • Collaborate with the audience managers and analytics vendors to assess donor retention trends across key data points, ensuring all donor metrics are available and accurate for this analysis
  • Regularly review to help identify data challenges and opportunities to ensure Covenant House is making smart data, segmentation and reporting decisions
  • Lead implementation of all vendor data models and overlays; oversee updates and reporting of quarterly index data.
  • Oversee Data Analytics team in the creation of donor segmentation, source codes, and campaign files.
  • Oversee Data Analytics team in the creation and management of ad hoc and scheduled reports for a variety of campaigns and activities with an eye to generating actionable insights
  • Leverage data programming skills to build (or manage the building) of data tools that increase utilization of available data sets


Data Quality

  • Oversee and ensure accurate campaign tracking across all channels by directing creation and implementation of source codes to track behavior and revenue, and ensure accurate data analysis for testing results and fundraising strategies
  • Ensure results from all campaigns across all channels are uploaded to the proper donor management systems
  • Ensure quality control checks are performed on campaign data and quality control audits on key dashboards and reports
  • Conduct periodic reviews of marketing data rules and processes, ensuring maintenance of the departmental Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Guidelines

  • Is well informed, keeping abreast of technical journals and/or manuals, attends vendor seminars, and takes advantage of appropriate professional development opportunities to learn about new industry best practices and enhanced database marketing techniques
  • Demonstrated programming abilities to work with various data sets and create useful tools resulting in deeper business intelligence


Minimum Experience & Education


  • BS or BA degree or higher in related field, masters is preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in marketing analytics using big data skills to drive campaign targeting and analysis, preferably in a non-profit and/or marketing environment
  • Fundamental understanding of accounting, finance, and direct marketing programs
  • Proven ability to manipulate relational data
  • Extensive experience with SQL and data warehousing tools
  • Familiarity with nonprofit CRM systems, Preference will be given to candidates with direct experience
  • Experience with statistical software packages (SAS, STATA, R, Python, or equivalent) and concepts of predictive analytics.
  • Basic web analytics experience.
  • Proven experience in all Microsoft Office applications, specifically MS Excel including macros and pivot tables, MS PowerPoint, and MS Word, as well as Google suite

 Travel Required
