POSITION SUMMARY: 

This key role projects the voice and mission of Project HOPE to audiences worldwide. A vibrant storyteller, news-breaker, and community builder, the Social Media Specialist will work closely with the Senior Director, Public Engagement and Teams organization-wide, to promote Project HOPE through multimedia platforms. Combining digital, social and earned media skills, this team member will ultimately innovate to project compelling content through breakthrough strategies that increase audience reach, engagement and support. This is an excellent opportunity for an entrepreneurial, solutions-focused professional or emerging leader with passion for global affairs, international development, health equity, humanitarianism, climate change and/or social justice.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Content & Channel Optimization– Develops and deploys strategies to optimize content, curation, reach and engagement. In collaboration with team, shapes and runs programming for digital media channels, including Instagram/IGTV, Facebook/FB Live, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn. Has a talent to find a compelling voice, spotlight a powerful story, and inspire audiences through engagement and conversion. Experienced with creating basic video content for social media.
  • Media Relations – Identifies opportunities to enhance news media engagement through use of social and multimedia. Monitors media trends and breaking news. Strategically harnesses public interest moments.
  • Social Content & Management – Daily social media maintenance. In coordination with team, sets and tracks KPIs to drive upward growth. Engages and guides global colleagues on DIY digital/user-generated content (UGC) guidelines. Collaborates with direct response and marketing teams as community manager.
  • Influencer Strategy – identifies potential influencers and supporters for Project HOPE using Sprout Social and other monitoring and data tools. Initiates outreach, defines strategy for outreach and partnership and reports out on measures of success.
  • Project Management – In coordination with team, manages multimedia initiatives, including idea conception, integrated strategy, cross-channel deployment and results monitoring.
  • Writing & Editing – Strong writing, editing, research and fact-checking, sourcing/crediting skills a must. Responsible for projecting the voice of Project HOPE, highest standards of excellence are essential.
  • Partnerships & Collaborations – Proactively seeks opportunities to engage and collaborate with existing and additional organizational partners for cross-promotional storytelling and media opportunities. Designs social media kits for partner usage and drives collaboration. Serves as POC for partners’ social/digital media leads.
  • Events & Fundraising – Promotes fundraising campaigns, special events and Annual Event.
  • Internal Communications – Assists colleagues with social media best practices by providing tools, guidelines and trainings as needed. Periodically provides social content ideas to executive spokespeople, with guidance of Sr. Director and Media Team.  Leads tactics to engage and spotlight staff through digital & social media.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree.

5+ years of professional communications or social media experience.

Passionate about media trends, technologies and how to engage audiences in dynamic landscapes.

Multimedia fluency, including intersection between earned media, social/multimedia, increases engagements to conversion to supporter status.

Growth mindset a must. Experience with setting KPIs and leveraging analytics to track toward goals.

A fine eye for editing, grammar, punctuation; a close ear for appropriate tone across moments and messaging.

An eye and voice for great storytelling with utmost respect, sensitivity toward people of all cultures.

Agile, but structured and well-organized. Solution-oriented and focused on problem-solving.

Ability to work well under pressure, and to respond flexibly and resourcefully to workload fluctuations, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated experience in planning and organization; able to handle multiple tasks or projects of high priority in a professional and efficient manner.

Demonstrated motivational skills, professional maturity, and ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

Must be available when needed on nights and weekends, especially during crisis communications and emergencies.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Prior health or humanitarian experience; international travel experience

Graphic design, photography, creative arts skills

Multilingual, e.g. Spanish, other

Video shooting/editing

  • Typical office environment with exposure to a minimal noise level. 
  • Emergency deployments may be in resource-deprived environments with austere living conditions.
  • Travel for extended periods may be by air and/or other modes of transportation.
  • While international travel is not a regular part of every job, programmatic needs may require it intermittently.
  • Project HOPE employees may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardship.”
