Objective of the Position
The role of the Account Director is to direct and manage the implementation of all areas of the direct response fundraising strategy for non-profit organizations and to maintain strong client relationships.
Job Summary
The Account Director is responsible for managing and executing direct response fundraising campaigns, including: writing all campaign strategies, writing data selects and instructions, list selection and segmentation, overseeing data processing, creative development and quality control. On larger clients, the Account Director may supervise an Account Executive or Senior Account Executive who is performing some of these tasks. The Account Director is responsible for developing the multi-year strategic vision as well as creating the yearly budget and projections, cash flow projections (when necessary), developing the yearly strategic plan, and analyzing the success of the program including managing reporting to the client whether that be writing formal campaign reports or presenting results to the client on a regular basis. The Account Director will also handle ad hoc reports such as executive summaries for Boards and Senior Leadership. The Account Director is charged with client contracting, ensuring that all contracts with clients are renewed and registered.
The Account Director is also responsible for maintaining strong client relationships, including initiating regular contact with clients and responding to urgent client needs. The Account Director is also responsible for ensuring that Executive Vice President and Partners assigned to accounts are apprised of the status of the campaign and any potential client issues that could impact the relationship between the client and the firm. The Account Director should have a detailed understanding of direct response fundraising, nonprofit management and the ability to work as part of a team to fulfill client needs.
The Account Director is charged with supervising junior staff (those at the Junior Account or Account Executive levels) and working with account supervisor to ensure good morale within client teams. The Account Director is charged with new business development, following up with potential client leads and participating in the RFP process. To facilitate that, the Account Director is expected to cultivate a presence in the industry, representing Lautman Maska Neill & Company at industry events and volunteering on committees.
Finally, the Account Director should be a leader in firm, bringing added value by initiating special projects or initiatives that will further develop company offerings, processes or culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintains strong relationship with clients and reports up to an Executive Vice President or Partner to keep them apprised of all accounts.
- Ensure that all campaigns go out on time.
- Utilizing program metrics, leads the development of individual campaign strategy and tests that will meet the goals of the campaign and the larger program goals.
- Supervises the writing of strategy memos.
- Working on multiple teams, acts as liaison with clients, production department, creative department, digital department, analytics department and vendors to execute the campaign strategy as outlined in LMNC procedures documents.
- Writes or supervises the writing of data selects and data instructions.
- Proofreads (or supervises the proofreading of) all campaign materials from proofs through setups to ensure the quality of each campaign.
- Manages campaign analysis to monitor program success (and takes corrective action when needed).
- Ensures results are updated regularly and client, Executive Vice President and Partners are appropriately apprised of results.
- Takes the lead in reporting (or supervising the reporting of) campaign results to clients, according to the schedule and in the format that best meets the client’s needs.
- Creates multi-year strategic vision for the campaign and creates yearly client budgets and testing strategies.
- Acts as Direct Supervisor to staff at the Account Coordinator or Account Executive level.
- Participates in new business proposals and vetting potential clients.
- Attends training sessions including company seminars as well as industry events and conferences. In consultation with supervisor, cultivates a presence in the industry through volunteering, speaking or writing for internal and industry publications. A primary goal of these efforts is to develop a network of professionals within the industry who can support the growth of the firm.
- In consultation with their supervisor, develops and spearheads special projects or initiative within the company that will further develop company offerings, processes, or culture.

Job Requirements
- 10 years’ experience in fundraising and/or direct marketing
- Detailed knowledge of direct response fundraising and campaign execution
- Strong analytic and writing skills
- Online and list experience a plus
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong management skills and supervisory ability
- Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
