ROLE OVERVIEW

The Individual Giving Officer manages a portfolio of donors across the U.S. within the Individual Giving & Strategic Philanthropy unit, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding their support to deepen connection and secure funds for our lifesaving work from donors giving up to $24,999. Reporting to the Associate Director, Stewardship & Engagement, this role qualifies donor desire for personal connection, identifies interests, capacity and philanthropic goals. They provide the best donor experience to retain, upgrade and move these donors. This role brings donors closer to the mission, inspiring loyalty and financial commitment with emphasis on those with greatest potential.

The officer will provide top-notch donor care. The officer will listen for financially savvy vehicles and non-cash gift opportunities, elevating unrestricted and multi-year giving, plus building pipeline to Major Gifts and Legacy, while successfully closing gifts. They will convey credibility and expertise in MSF's mission.

DEPARTMENT ACCOUNTABILITIES

Prospecting
Pursue strategic opportunities in coherence with MSF-USA´s strategy, that create long-term value for the movement by identifying and developing new audience segments or donors for its mission.

Donor Cultivation, Engagement and Management
Build trust and loyalty with potential and existing donors. At the simplest level, update donors on activities. At a more complex level, build long-term relationships with key donors and key donor segments. Take overall responsibility for designing, developing, and delivering the donor engagement strategy. May be through channels or through personal relationships.

Fundraising
Secure reliable, sustainable and efficient resources in alignment with MSF-US commitments.

Brand Positioning
Drive awareness and consideration through brand positioning based on the brand strategy and implement brand plans.

Deploy and champion the latest technological systems and capabilities that push the boundaries of what Development can produce for its donors. 

ROLES SPECIFIC OUTCOMES

Key Account Management
Nurture donor relationships such as with lower-tier individual donors, loyal fundraising communities, or small- to medium-sized companies, either personally or by supervising an account management team. Work within established systems to create positive experiences, develop solutions, generate new opportunities and ensure all donor needs are met.

Donor Relationship Management (Account Management)
Develop and implement a relationship management plan for existing donor accounts to identify and build relationships with relevant decision makers and influencers within the donor organization and to enable effective two-way flow of information and resolution of issues. Collect feedback from identified donors or donor segments to ensure their needs are met, providing themes, summary analyses, and recommendations for changes based on donor input.

Fundraising Events Development and Design
Coordinates event logistics such as scheduling, preparing materials, and liaising with vendors. Contributes to the creation of digital content for event promotion and assists in the ideation and planning of unique fundraising events. Supports preparation of business cases for innovative fundraising events.

Customer Relation Management (CRM) Data
Enter donor information that has been gathered through research and/or through direct donor contact into the donor relationship management system, to ensure that the organization has quality data to enable effective donor retention and business development activities OR Ensure that team members maintain up-to-date donor relationship management data, identifying and resolving issues.

Donor Needs/Experience Research
Contribute to the understanding of donor segments, trends, needs, and expectations by reporting and providing feedback on client interactions.

Donor Renewals
Drive and secure donor renewals through exceptional service interactions, ensuring the donor is consistently gaining value from the product/service; this role will often have a renewal quota to fulfill.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
At a minimum the Job Holder should possess:

  • Minimum five to seven years’ experience in fundraising with at least two years in Midlevel Giving, Leadership Giving, Major Gifts or transferable constituent facing roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain meaningful and successful supporter relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and comfortably with donors in person and over the phone. Comfort in “cold calling” and soliciting donations.
  • Demonstrated experience with Moves Management. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop successful strategies to retain, upgrade, and move donors that contribute to achieving individual and team revenue targets.
  • Experience using analytics and donor insights to develop cultivation and solicitation plans.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of fundraising concepts, including Planned Giving and Major Gifts.
  • Passion for connecting with globally minded donors interested in humanitarian aid, with the ability to inspire and engage them in the organization's mission and initiatives.
  • Knowledge and proficiency working in donor database, preferably Salesforce NPSP.
  • High level of discretion with donor’s private information and motivations.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills; attention to detail and process.
  • Ability to travel for donor visits, MSF events, and industry events once safe to resume.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred

  • Prior demonstrable success securing four and five figure gifts, plus multiyear commitments.
  • Experience with KPI and forecasting measurement objectives.
  • Excellent storytelling, presentation, and persuasive skills both written and oral. 
  • Ability to identify and anticipate obstacles, and judge when and how to engage key stakeholders with discretion.
  • Needs to be comfortable with ambiguity and have ability to operate amidst change.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to travel for donor visits, MSF events, and industry events, with up to 25% of time spent traveling.

COMPENSATION

$88,822 - $133,233 (all new employees will be compensated from the minimum to midpoint based
