Position Summary

The Mid-Level Giving  Manager is part of the dynamic and growth-focused WCS Individual Giving team. This position will report to the Director, Direct Response Fundraising, as part of the larger Annual Fund program, which raises more than $6M a year; the mid-level giving program accounts for $4M annually. The Manager will oversee the planning and execution of day-to-day strategy regarding the mid-level Patrons program at WCS, including personal donor outreach and communication. This could be a dream position for someone with direct response and/or relationship management experience who wishes to grow in both subjects, as the program is in a growth phase. The ideal candidate possesses a strong mix of interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills, and is committed to emphasizing the importance of building lasting relationships with donors to secure ongoing support for WCS.

Principal Responsibilities

(The individual’s main responsibilities will be in supporting the Bronx Zoo-based Annual Giving team by delivering best-in-class donor management, and executing the processes that ensure successful cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of mid-level donors, include)

  • Mission & Revenue:
    • Support the Annual Fund team’s overall revenue goals, as well as Patrons; and serve as a critical member of the Global Resources team by creating and executing strategies to successfully cultivate and solicit mid-level giving individual donors.
  • Direct Response Strategy & Execution:
    • Help to develop and support the execution of strategies which support the donor journey, maximizing retention and upgrading of Conservation Patrons and moving donors up from through all levels of giving.
    • Work with Major Gifts team, Director, and Operations to determine when donors are ready to move up to Major Gifts.
  • Mid-Level Donor Management:
    • Serve as the organization's concierge contact for donors, giving high-quality member care via phone and/or email, or in-person as needed.
    • Occasional after-hours work is required for donor events, tours, etc.
  • Direct Mail Management:
    • Oversee day-to-day production of mail and liaise with Sr Digital Manager on digital campaigns to ensure program Revenue Goals are met.
    • Solicit for renewals, appeals and upgrades using direct response methods as well as personal outreach.
  • Operations & Fulfillment:
    • Ensure data processing and audience segmentation is correct and clean for all campaigns.
    • Work with internal Operations team to constantly improve processes.
    • Help to oversee gift processing and troubleshoot as needed. Manage the execution of the acknowledgment and welcome process for all Patrons utilizing a combination of personal outreach and external partners. 
  • Cross-Team Collaboration:
    • Work with and guide internal stakeholders on projects related to donors, such as zoo customer service, zoo-related events, content and communications, and special tours.
  • Reporting & Expense Management:
    • Track expenses to budget. Prepare reports and financial analyses as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience working in direct marketing, philanthropy or development.
  • Project management experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong writing skills necessary, both for solicitations and informal communications.
  • Customer service or donor care experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple projects with varying deadlines and budgets, with many stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • 3+ years CRM experience required. Salesforce experience preferred. (RaisersEdge, TA, Blackbaud, etc., acceptable).
  • Comfortable with fast-paced work environment, and demonstrated ability to solve problems, ability to meet tight deadlines, multi-task, and manage resources effectively.
  • Must have excellent problem solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to build consensus and work effectively across departments.
  • Experience managing relationships with agencies and outside partners.
     
Physical Demands
  • The physical demands include but are not limited to use of a Keyboard, 10-key, Mouse, and Telephone Use, Handwriting, Sitting, Standing, Crouching, Kneeling, Bending, Walking, Stair Climbing, minimal Driving, and Lifting up to 50lbs.

  • The workplace conditions and environment of the role include working indoors, closely with others, and/or alone, exposure to excess noise, operate power tools and equipment and use sharp tools and equipment
