Position Objectives:
In collaboration with the Senior Director of Individual Giving and the Major Gifts team, the Senior Philanthropic Specialist for Major Gifts will be a seasoned fundraiser responsible for helping PETA reach its fundraising goals by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of 150 major donors.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
In consultation and verified compliance with the objectives, standards, and requirements communicated by PETA:
- Build and establish an engaged portfolio of high-net-worth PETA donors
- Cultivate and steward relationships with targeted and prospective PETA donors
- Solicit major financial donations to PETA from targeted donors
- Identify and work with key donors who wish to include PETA in their estate plans
- Identify and research other appropriate "cases for giving" for targeted PETA donors
- Develop and propose strategies for PETA donor groups based on giving levels
- Secure visits and travel to meet with donors
- Work with key PETA staff to bring donors deeper into the folds of PETA’s work
- Document pertinent information for the purpose of enhancing and developing PETA donor profiles
- Record donor research, meeting, correspondences, and other notes in PETA's major gifts database
- Stay up-to-date on current fundraising techniques and methods, both in Major and Planned Gifts
- Assist in the mentoring of other Philanthropic Specialists on their major and planned giving solicitations
- Attend professional-training seminars
- Perform any other duties requested by the supervisor
- Degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Five years of experience with major and planned gifts fundraising
- Exceptional persuasive and explanatory written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to maintain professional working relationships with a charity's members and supporters
- Proven excellent project management, strategic thinking, and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain strict confidentiality at all times
- Professional appearance and adherence to a healthy vegan lifestyle
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
- Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid U.S. driver's license, a minimum of three years experience, and a satisfactory driving record
- Ability to represent PETA's philosophy and professionally advocate PETA's positions on issues
- Commitment to the objectives of the organization
The salary range for this position is $60,000.00 to $85,000.00 annually. The ultimate salary within this range that will be offered to a qualified candidate will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and the cost of living in the area in which the candidate will live and work.
